ABOUT EPRETIDE
Elamipretide (SS-31, MTP-131) is a synthetic tetrapeptide of the Szeto-Schiller series, built on an alternating aromatic-cationic motif (D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH₂). This structure lets it cross cell membranes independently of receptors and transporters and concentrate more than a thousand-fold in the inner mitochondrial membrane.
There it binds cardiolipin, the phospholipid unique to the inner mitochondrial membrane, stabilising cristae architecture and the electron transport chain. Epretide™ supplies elamipretide as a defined, batch-documented reference material with identity and purity verified on every lot.

RESEARCH BACKGROUND
First described by Szeto and Schiller, SS-31 became the reference compound of the cardiolipin-protective class: by binding cardiolipin it preserves cristae structure, supports electron transport chain supercomplexes, improves ATP synthesis and reduces excess reactive oxygen species in stressed mitochondria.
Under the name elamipretide, the compound has been taken into clinical development for primary mitochondrial myopathy, Barth syndrome and dry age-related macular degeneration — making it one of the most extensively studied mitochondria-targeted agents in the literature.
